Description
One day, on a whim, I decided to open up MS Paint (lol) and draw a scene just for fun. I got a few minutes into it when I realized that, even though I wanted to do a Paint drawing, I might be better off using a more capable program (plus having an undo-history of 8 items was not fun). So I stopped where I was and opened GIMP. I used my Paint sketch as a starting point, and ultimately wound up with this.
My chief issues with it are a) the geometry of the scene is all wrong, i.e. the horizon should be higher; I wasn't thinking about that when I started :/, and b) something is "missing"; I had wanted to put a person sitting on the hill in the foreground to the left, looking up at the sky, but I decided against it due to my utter ineptitude at drawing people. I may try to add him in one day anyway.
For the sky, I wanted it to be realistic and believable. Though fictitious, I drew some inspiration from sights in the Terran skies, while making such features generic enough that they would be plausible in the skies of any Earth-like world in the quiet suburbs of any spiral galaxy.
All in all I'm pleased with the way it turned out, considering that this was my first attempt at such a project. I may do more similar to this in the future.
*Made entirely in GIMP using only standard tools/filters/plugins/brushes etc.
